How to Draw a Dragon Head

Step 1.


Make a circle for the dragon head like so, then sketch in the wavy guidelines.

Step 2.


Using the shape you just made begin sketching out the structure of the dragon's forehead which is done from a side profile view. Move along until the snout is sketched out, then draw the sharp pointed top row of teeth.

Step 3.


Next, begin drawing out the bottom part of the mouth as well as the very strong mandible. As you can see the jaw line is almost shaped like a horse's. Sketch in the rough looking nostrils, then work on getting the brows, and top portion of the face s   

Step 4.


Here you will sketch in all the detailing and definition around the dragon's mouth and teeth as well as around the brow and snout. Sketch in the eye and add the crease and or wrinkle lines under the eye.

Step 5.


For the last step all you have to do is sketch out the thick shape of the dragon's neck, then sketch in the spiked frills which also have finger line bones. Draw the spiked horns, then erase your mistakes.

Step 6.


Here is the finished drawing of your dragon head. Now you can choose how you want to color it in.

Description: For those of you that joined me live yesterday I created the dragon head you see before you now. Even though this sketch or creation of a dragon is something that I have done before, I really love the way the colored image came out because of all the detailing and definition that was included with the coloring. The end result was this texture packed drawing that looks super cool and so life like. The head shape, the structure, everything about this drawing screams dragon.
