How To Draw Jesse Owens

Step 1.


Jesse Owens is considered to be one of the greatest track and field athletes of all time. Here is a quick head sketch of the man himself.

Step 2.


To draw the legendary, Olympic track star, Jesse Owens, you should start by first sketching in some basic guide lines. Using a 2H or harder pencil, lightly sketch in a stick figure shape such as this on. He should be leaning forward, as he is running   

Step 3.


Next, we should sketch in the basic human form. Doing this will ensure that the figure is proportionate when we go to apply clothing and muscle tone later on. You do not need to include details such as facial feature or fingers. These lines are just    

Step 4.


Let's draw the eyes and nose first. The eyes should be looking straight ahead as he is running along a track. His eye should be open wide and his eyebrows should be raised high. Be sure to draw numerous creases around each eye for the eyelids and wri   

Step 5.


Next, draw his mouth. The middle of his lips should point downward. The upper and lower lips are about the same thickness as each other. Be sure to draw the indentation above the upper lip. There should be a thin crease below the corner of the mouth

Draw his facial contours and left ear. Notice how a portion of his cheek is hidden behind the nose at this angle. Draw a smooth curved line from the chin to the location of the ear, which is the jaw line. The ear should alight with the eyes but is fa

His hair is very short and coarse. He has a slight receding hairline in the corner of his forehead. You don't need to worry about drawing individual strands since the hair will be blacked out after we ink.

Step 8.


A small portion of his neck should be visible at this angle. The lines of the neck should be pointing back, rather than down. The back of the neck should align with the ear, and the front of the neck should jut out from behind the chin. Draw a couple

It's best to draw his left arm before the torso, since it will be covering up much of his body. The arm should be bent forward, reaching out ahead of him as he runs along. We should have a clear view of the back of his opened hand as well as his thin   

Step 10.


Now we can draw his torso, which wears a sleeveless tank top. The back of the shirt should be blowing back a bit, but the waist should be very taught and have straight, diagonal wrinkles in it. The waist can be cut off by a diagonal curved line for t

Don't forget to draw the right arm which is bent back, trailing behind his body. We should only be able to see the elbow and some of the forearm pointing downwards.

Step 12.


He should be wearing very short, loose, track shorts. The fabric should have plenty of folds and creases in it, many of which should be pointing diagonally above the location of the right leg. Draw a thin strip of trim down the side of the shorts for

His left legs should be perfectly straight with the toes of his foot digging into the ground. His legs are lean and muscular. The shoes should be fitting track shoes, so they should not go above the ankles and they do not need to have much detail sin   

Step 14.


The right leg, however, should be bent forward, with the foot trailing behind the knee as he is striding ahead. His thigh should have a long curved line for muscle tone.

Now that we are done penciling the image, we can ink it using a Micron marker or a brush and India ink. Carefully go over each line with patience and be sure not to accidentally ink any unneeded guide lines. A brush works great for inking fabric crea

You can add more depth to the image by giving it shadow. Establish your light source and use black ink or a fat tipped black marker to shade the opposite side of the figure and every clothing wrinkle and fold. Shade his hair totally black, as well as

If you need to make any corrections, use white ink or opaque white paint. You can also use it to add highlights if needed. And that's how you draw Jesse Owens! You get the gold!
