How to Draw an Indian Feather

1

Start with the small circle for the jewel.

2

Next, draw in the leather wrapped root or stem of the feather as well as the string which is connected to the root.

3

Add the crisscross lining like so to make the wrapped look.

4

We will tackle the task of sketching out the feather next. Start with the soft, fluff that makes up the top of the feather's design.

5

You will continue drawing the feather shape and design like so. Add some notches along the edges of the feather, then you can proceed to step six.

6

Form the end or tip of the feather as it curls under the entire feather.

7

Lastly, sketch in the rib down the center of the feather and then sketch in the light fine lines to add detailing and texture definition to your Indian feather. Erase your mistakes and you are all done.

8

Here is the line art. You can color in your feather and add some extra detailing to the drawing.

Description: The idea for this lesson came about when my sister came home with these really pretty Native American style feather earrings. They have a turquoise jewel at the base of the feather root with tied leather string wrapped around the root tip. I thought that drawing an Indian feather might be something that people would like since feathers are such pretty spiritual objects. Drawing feathers can be cool and fun, and when you tackle this lesson on a Native American style feather I think you will find that you can add or take from the drawing whatever you like. At the top I drew a small dreamcatcher, but you can add whatever you like. Thanks for joining me with this tut folks, I will be back soon with more for you all.
