How to Draw a Feather Tattoo

Artist: Dawn / January 10, 2013

Step 1.

First sketch out the shape or outline of a feather.

Step 2.

Begin this step by lightly sketching out the feathers design using a soft stroke to make the feather look wispy and full of body and texture. As you can see there is a chunk of the feather missing.

Step 3.

Use this step to draw in the pieces of feathers flying away from the root. This is supposed to represent freedom because the small broken pieces of feathers are breaking away from the root or 'confinement' from the center.

Step 4.

Here is the finished drawing when you're done. You can color it black, use it as a tattoo, or for another idea you may have.

Description: This is going to be my last lesson for the day. I know you guys have been enjoying tutorials from some very talented artists lately and I want to thank all of you that has contributed tutorials to Dragoart for others to learn from. It's nice to see the different skills and talents from other artistic individuals that have their own styles or ways to teach others how to draw. Because of this, I can work on improving Dragoart to make the site more user friendly. Today I will be showing you "how to draw a feather tattoo", step by step. I have seen this type of design recently and was inspired to make one of my own. Traditionally the feather is supposed to be black and from a raven. The small pieces of feathers break from the side and turn into birds the further they get from their root. I chose to go with a white wispy design because darkness is all around us so I wanted to shed some light on us all. I think you will enjoy this lesson because it's different and very pretty. See ya later alligators, I will be back tomorrow with more for ya'll, Peace.
