How to Draw a Girl and Grandmother

Artist: Dawn / October 9, 2014

Step 1.

We will tackle the task of drawing the two figures but just the guides for their body frames only. This should include the head, torso, hips and limbs.

Step 2.

Next, we will tackle the girl first. Define the shape of her face using the guide you made in step one. When that is done draw the hair line that frames the face like so.

Step 3.

Here is where the facial guidelines come into play. Use them to sketch out the eyes, nose and mouth. It's actually only the top lip you will draw and make sure it's thick or dark. The girls eyes are closed and squinted from laughing.

Step 4.

Finish drawing the mouth, then add the tongue, teeth and detailing inside the mouth.

Step 5.

Let's get started with drawing her body. Start with the shoulders, then draw her chest, and some of the torso. The shirt will also need to be completely drawn in as well. Add the creases for the breasts, then move to the next step.

Step 6.

We will draw the girl's hair which should be long and sort of wavy. Add detailing to her hair, then proceed to step seven.

Step 7.

We can now draw the arm and hand completely, then add the expansion marks on the shirt.

Step 8.

All you have to do here is draw the waist and then grandma's arm and hand. Add some age spots to her hand too.

Step 9.

We will sketch out the shape of grandma's face then draw the nose. Notice how the old lady has a long chin. Add the crinkle curled hairline too.

Step 10.

Draw in grandma's face like so, and don't forget to draw those wrinkles around her lips.

Step 11.

We will draw grandma's hair which is just a short puffy do. Add the shirt collar line that circles the neck like so as well.

Step 12.

Let's get busy with drawing the old lady's body. Start with the shoulders, torso and then her other arm. Notice that the hand is on her granddaughter's stomach as the fingers dimple into the skin.

Step 13.

Add detailing to the chest, then add detailing to the arm which is loose wrinkle skin.

Step 14.

Get back to working on the granddaughter. Draw her hips, then draw the crinkle lining for her short shorts.

Step 15.

Add the belt and belt hoops, then draw in some pockets and seam lines.

Step 16.

Lastly, finish this family off by drawing the thighs or legs, and the rest of grandma's body which is a long nightgown like shirt. Erase your mistakes and that's it.

Step 17.

Here is the finished line art. Now you can have a blast as you color in the two people.

Description: This is something that is cute in my book. I know many girls out there have grandmothers and absolutely love them. This tutorial was a request from a member and since I know how it feels to have a grandma, I wanted to show you guys how to draw a girl and her grandmother. As you can see grandma is trying to tickle her teenage granddaughter. The tickling must be working because she is laughing her head off. I love how the drawing came out as far as drawing style goes. It looks like characters from anime or manga. The coloring, clothing and setting makes this a bright drawing to look at, and the love expressed in the image makes it a good tut to tackle. Have fun and let me know if you enjoyed this tutorial.
