How to Draw Finley, Flying Monkey

You will all be drawing a monkey and a pair of wings. So let's begin. Start with the basic shaped to form the limp looking mannequin you see here of the monkey.

Using the head guide you made in step one, begin sketching out the structure or outline of the monkey's face, muzzle and ear. Notice the hairline is wavy. Draw the little hat, then proceed to step three.

You will now draw and color in the uni-brow that this primate has going across his forehead. Once you do that you can sketch in the forehead creases or wrinkles, as well as the nose, eyes, and inner ear detailing. Add a design patter to the middle of

You will now draw the head which is nothing more then long hair in a round shape. Draw the V of the vest, then move along.

Now you can draw out the almost diamond shaped collar that this flying monkey wears on his shoulders and torso. Add the design which is nothing more then squiggle lines.

Take your time as you begin drawing the long, hairy arms. The arms start off small at the top near the shoulders. On your way down the arm make sure that it widens and becomes more apish. Sketch in the hands or fingers, then add nails, and bone detai

Believe it or not, but we are almost done drawing Finley. We will tackle this step by drawing the entire leg, then the hand like foot. Monkeys have feet that look like hands, it's creepy. Anyways, sketch out the definition to the leg which is the tex

Draw out the rest of the torso, as well as the hip, thigh, leg and foot. Add detailing to the body, then draw in Finley's tail which is a nice sharp lined tail.

The wings on the flying monkeys are bird like in appearance both in the early film, and in the soon to be movie of today. Start by drawing the arm of the feathered wing, then sketch in four layers of feathers starting with the shorter row first which

You will repeat the same exact thing in this step. Some differences is the fact you can see more of the wing's shoulder. When you are done you can start erasing the mistakes.

Here is your flying monkey from Oz and his name is Finley. Color him in, then show someone the awesome job you did on a classic character.

Description: I’m sure most of you are familiar, and have seen the legendary Wizard of Oz. Well for those of you that don't know, come March 8th of this year the movie ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ will be in theaters. The movie has an all-star cast starring James Franco as Oz, Glinda the Witch, and even the wicked witch. Back when Dorothy and Toto were in a search for Oz to get back to Kansas, there was one monster or “villain” that always stood out, and that was 'the flying monkeys' who worked for the Wicked Witch of the West. This lesson is going to show you "how to draw Finley the Flying Monkey", only he is not bad. Finley is actually Oz’s friend who travels with Oz on his journey to find himself. Unlike how The Wizard of Oz portrayed flying Monkeys, in this movie a flying monkey named Finley actually turns out to be a loyal friend and ally. If you have ever wanted to know if it’s hard drawing a flying monkey, now is your chance. This lesson will do just that. Let me know if you are looking forward to seeing this film. Peace out mi amigos.
