How to Draw Anime Hair in Pencil

Roughly shade over the hair, eyes and shadows with a soft pencil (2B or 4B). Smooth over the shading with either a blending stump or some paper towel.

Erase around the edges of the hair to make it stand out more against the background then use a kneaded eraser to add some highlights to the face and neck. Redefine the outlines of the hair with a 2B pencil.

Build up the dark shading using a 4B pencil and smooth out the skin with a blending stump.

Use a 2B or 4B pencil to roughly shade in the hair eyes, and shadows. Use a blending stump or paper towel to smooth out the shading.

Use an eraser to add highlight to the drawing and define the outline of the hair. lighten up the skin as well. Use a 2B pencil to define the outlines of the hair, chin and neck.

Add another layer of shading to the hair with an 4H pencil. Start from the outside and work inwards. Make your lines follow the natural flow of the hair.

Use a 2H pencil to start defining the eyes and bangs. Use HB/2B graphite on the pupils. Work fro left to right when adding the in the next layer of hair shading. Make your lines follow the flow of the hair. if 4H is too light for the hair use 2H; if

Shade in the rest of the hair and smooth out the face and neck shading with a blending stump. Add as much detail as you would like to the head and hair before calling the drawing done.
