How to Draw a Sleeping Dragon

Step 1.

First, sketch the preliminary guidelines for the sleeping dragon. Take your time with these steps since they need to be drawn as accurately as possible from this image.

Step 2.

Then, let's start off with the base of the head, keeping in mind that the lower jaw is longer than the upper jaw. This adds the impression that the dragon is large.

Step 3.

Next, sketch the facials like the eyes and the nostrils as well as the teeth. Start with the eyes first and work your way down.

Step 4.

Then, we'll start sketching the neck. Once you've drawn the neck, you must draw the spines and the crest which encircles the dragon's head. Use light lines for the scales so they don't stick out too prominently from the rest of the thick lines.

Step 5.

Next, let's work on the wings. I first start off with the individual wing fingers and the base of the claw which is the 'thumb'. Take your time with these!

Step 6.

To finish the wings, sketch the jagged edges of the membranes. If you'd like, add a few rips and tears in the wings to make the dragon seem aged.

Step 7.

Then, we can finally draw the leg and thigh beneath the wing, with the tail snaking out from beneath the shadowing wing as well.

Step 8.

Lastly, sketch the remaining hand that's beneath the head, and the spines which spike down the tail.

Step 9.

Once you've finished all the above steps, you should have something similar to this. Be sure to review your lines before you green light the inking process. I hope you guys had fun with this tutorial, and let me know which dragon tutorial I should do

Description: I haven't submitted any easy drawing tutorials of dragons recently, so with that being said, here's a cool and easy way to draw a sleeping dragon. I colored this guy green to keep within the tradition of these fantasy beasts. I had a lot of fun working on this dragon while watching 'Identity Thief' and it was such a blast. If you want to have ultimate inspiration while drawing, listen to fitting music and emerge yourself within the fantasy world. I hope you guys will have fun with this. Peace out!
