How to Draw Jack White, Jack White from The White Stripes

1

Draw the oval lightly with a No.2 or HB pencil. Make sure you draw it as seen in the picture.

2

Now draw in the bisecting line to balance his facial features.

3

Sketch lightly the crescent red lines for hair line and head mass.

4

You can draw in the lines a. for eyebrows, b. for eyes, c. for nose, d. for mouth, and e. for shoulders.

5

Now draw Jack's eyebrows, eyes, and hair strands.

6

Observe where Jack's features appear in relation to the guidelines. Draw in his nose, and mouth.

7

Now draw in the profile of his jawline and shadow.

8

This is for both steps 8 and 9. I divided the hair in two separated parts to make it easier for you to focus. Look closely at how the lines of his hair and strokes flow downward within the guidelines. Take your time to draw those curls and waves. Pat

This is why I categorized the tutorial as Advanced which is because of the hair detailing. Please draw in the hair.

10

Last but not least, draw in his neck and shoulders, along with the t-shirt folds and details. If you haven't already, you can now erase your guidelines. The lines you couldn't erase, go ahead and blend them in if you will be shading your drawing.

11

I made this line drawing especially for you if you don't want to do the pencil shading and blending part. Otherwise, let us continue to the pencil drawing part.

Here is the outline done with a 0.7mm mechanical pencil. Look closely and see if your lines look something like this. You can erase if certain areas like the eyes or nose don't line up. Take you kneaded eraser and dab off the shadow outlines or dark

I didn't want to skip this. The first picture shows how to hold your pencil for Overhand (great for writing & details) and Underhand (great for shading large areas in wide strokes). You can practice tone shading and take it a step further with the To

Here is how the tools look. I used the 0.7mm 2B mechanical pencil, 9B pencil, tissue, and the blending stump.

15

Best thing you can do when drawing hair is to establish the general shape then work in the main strands of hair by holding your pencil at a 45 degree angle for stroking and coverage. Then, as in the third picture, you can work in more details. But he

Here is a quick tip on different types of hair. In the picture follow the arrows. They represent the direction of the strokes to get that hair shine. You can practice this now or later. Straight, a curl, cornrows, or a single braid is just a few ways

17

This is the first start. This is where you would sketch in small circles or lines to shade the areas. It would take hours upon hours to cover all that area with a pencil. I chose to shade with pastels. In a few strokes I've got area coverage. Applied

18

What's interesting is I haven't used a pencil yet during this stage. I took a blending stump (since it won't leave lines and will cover a larger area) and shaded laying the stump tapered part flat (like a pencil) on his skin. Then I took it's point a

Since his skin was so light with little shading, I did not use a pencil. But if you are only using a pencil, please do shade with a No.2. I sketched in darker with my 9B pencil on the shadowed area on his face. I placed my 9B pencil flat and barely t

Drawing like this is a gradual buildup. I keep sketching, blending and sketching some more. This time, I first blended the pencil sketches with my toritllon to give a smooth transition. I added more dark tones and details to his hair, face, and neck

Here I added darker tones of hair shadow and strands from looking at the reference picture. You can do this with your pencil. I also smoothed his face, hair, neck and t-shirt by blurring with my digital program. I darkened his neck shadow, face and t
