How to Draw Old Man, Pawn Stars, Richard Harrison

1

Draw the oval lightly with a No.2 or HB pencil. Make sure you draw it as seen in the picture.

2

Now draw in the bisecting line to balance his facial features.

3

Sketch lightly the crescent red lines for hair line and head mass.

4

You can draw in the lines a. for eyebrows, b. for eyes, c. for nose, and d. for mouth.

5

Now draw Richard's forehead wrinkles, eyebrows, and eyes.

6

Observe where Richards's features appear in relation to the guidelines. Draw in his nose, shadow line, smiling lines, chin, and mouth.

7

Now draw in his face profile, cheek shadow line, jawline, and neck.

8

Lastly, observe where the lines of his hair flow (away from his face and some falling on his forehead) together within the guidelines. Take your time to draw the lines and curves of his hair. Patience is your best friend because with it, you'll be ab

Last but not least, draw in his shoulders and shirt. If you haven't already, you can now erase your guidelines.

I made this line drawing especially for you if you don't want to do the pencil shading and blending part. Otherwise, let us continue to the pencil drawing part.

Here is the outline done with a 0.7mm mechanical pencil. Look closely and see if your lines look something like this. You can erase if certain areas like the eyes or nose don't line up. Take you kneaded eraser and dab off the shadow outlines or dark

I didn't want to skip this. The first picture shows how to hold your pencil for Overhand (great for writing & details) and Underhand (great for shading large areas in wide strokes). You can practice tone shading and take it a step further with the To

What's interesting is I haven't used a pencil yet during this stage. I took a blending stump (since it won't leave lines and will cover a larger area) and shaded laying the stump tapered part flat (like a pencil) on his skin. Then I took it's point a

I sketched in darker with my 9B pencil on his face. The darker areas, I applied some pressure. The highlighted areas of his skin, I sketched very lightly in order to even the tone value with my 2B mechanical pencil.

Drawing like this is a gradual buildup. I keep sketching, blending and sketching some more. This time, I first blended the pencil sketches with my blending stump to give a smooth transition. I added more dark tones and details to his hair, face, shir

Here I added more highlights of hair strands in his hair from looking at the reference picture. I did this after I added the background. You can add highlights with white pastel, white titanium acrylic or watercolor paint. I also lightened the left s
