Let us start with a guide for the head and face like so. Sketch in the facial guidelines next.

2

Define the shape of Bowie's face like so, then draw in the hairline and the thick curl for his hairstyle on the album cover.

3

Form the shape of Bowie's head which is also his hairstyle. The style is combed back with the hair tucked behind the ears. You will need to draw in the ears as well.

4

We will draw in the lightning bolt strikes on an angle across David Bowie's face. Once that is done draw in the shapes of his eyes. Add the creases around the sides and on top.

5

Finish the eyes and when you color in the pupils be sure that the right eye has a thicker pupil then the left. Draw the nose and mouth as well.

6

We will end this lesson by drawing the remainder of the body which in this lesson is just the tops of his shoulders. Add the neck bone detailing as well. Erase the facial guidelines and mistakes too.

7

That's it folks. The drawing is complete. Color in Bowie's face accordingly and show someone what rock legend you just drew.

Description: Another rock star that we recently lost is the face you see here. Since I am a big fan of David Bowie's Space Oddity album I wanted to make a lesson on drawing David Bowie, step by step the way he looks on the album cover art. Bowie has been a big part of my childhood because he is an artist that I grew up listening to due to my parents choice of music. One thing I learned new about Bowie is he had eyes that looked like they were different colors, but the fact is they were both blue. The reason why he looked like he had one brown eye and one blue eye or heterochromia, is because when he was a child, he was injured in a fistfight which resulted a form of anisocoria. Anisocoria is when a person has different-size pupils. Anyways, I really like the way this drawing came out. I guess I could have defined his eye condition more, but I didn't want people to think that the coloring was off. So in tribute to David Bowie, here is a lesson that will show you how to draw Bowie as we remember him best.
