How to Draw Day of the Dead Skull

Step 1.


Draw a circle for the skull guide and then sketch in the facial guidelines.

Step 2.


Use the guide to define the shape of the sugar skull's head and front part of the upper jaw or teeth.

Step 3.


We will now draw out the outline of the rose. The lining should be rippled a bit.

Step 4.


Draw the rose in detail by sketching out the center. There are layers of rose petals.

Step 5.


The petals behind the skull head look more like fire waves. Add the leaves and more of the petals until the top lining of the skull is lined with rose petals.

Step 6.


Use the facial guidelines to draw out the large eye shapes. Add the lashes and rounded petals around the top part of the eyes.

Step 7.


We will now draw the eyeballs and then draw the nasal holes or cavities.

Step 8.


Lastly, erase the mistakes and guides, then draw in the remaining pattern or design art on the skull's surface.

Step 9.


You're all done. Use whatever colors you like to add vibrancy to this sugar skull.

Description: Well, this is the last lesson that I will be uploading that relates to Day of the Dead. So here is my version on how to draw Day of the Dead skull, step by step. With this skull design I wanted to do something different so instead of leaving the eye cavities hollow, I drew in some eyes. If you would much rather have your skull without the eyes, no problem just leave them out and just draw the design around the outer parts of the eyes. Anyways, like I said before there are so many sugar skulls that I have made so there is almost nothing more I can really say. Just enjoy the tut and wait for the other submissions to be added to the site.
