How to Draw an Ape

Step 1.

Okay, let's begin. Start with an egg shape for the head, then draw in the facial guide. You will also need to draw out the body shape or outline.

Step 2.

This ape is going to have a very long, and square jaw structure. Start with the top of the head like so, then draw the brow bump, then the total shape of the lower portion of the face.

Step 3.

Make a straight line going across t he center of the forehead like so. This will be for the low hanging brow. Next, draw out the eyes, then color in the pupils. When that is done you can make the marking line on the face which separates the hairy ski

Step 4.

For the next step all you have to do is draw out the long, trunk like arms followed by the massive sized fist that apes and or gorillas use to walk on. Draw in some of the chest, then draw in the ear.

Step 5.

Here is where you will draw out the other arm, but with this one you will also include the shoulder. When that is all done make the lining on the wrist for the hair separation, then draw in the finger lines on the fist.

Step 6.

Lastly, draw the back lining for the ape, then draw the two hind or back legs. Notice how the legs and feet resemble arms and hands. Erase your mistakes so you have a cleaned image to color in.

Step 7.

You're all done. Now you can color in this ape to your liking. Be sure to show folks your work when you're done.

Description: There is a lot of cool things to draw when it comes to animals and for me I usually like drawing cats, lions, horses, and other fantasy style beasts. I was watching the Disney movie 'Tarzan' with my sister the other night and for some reason the monkeys or gorillas in the film made me think about a request I received from a member. They asked if I could make a lesson on "how to draw an ape", step by step. Since I don't have an ape that looks goofy but scary at the same time, I figured that it would be a fun and cool animal to recreate. Since gorillas or apes have large, muscular, long arms, I exaggerated the size of the apes arms to make him look super strong. You can make your ape a female just by adding some lashes on the eyes, and maybe some red lined lips. Of course there is the choice to draw a bow of some sorts instead of the red lips, but that's all up to you. This should be an easy lesson to tackle which means you will have fun drawing an ape of your own. I have some other exciting stuff coming your way so stay tuned in to see what it is. Adios people and enjoy!
