Step 1.

Here is a diagram of two backs of a human figure. As you can see there is two different styles of a back. The first as you see here shows how broad the shoulders can be drawn out, the other diagram is showing the slanted look or style of shoulders th

Step 2.

Here is a description of the human back. Starting from number 1, this shows the muscle definition that is connected to the neck muscles. A well defined back should have this definition. Next, number two shows the position of the shoulder blades, and

Step 3.

The back to the right is a female, and the back to the left is obviously a male. Notice how the two figures are different. For a female the shape of the back or waist sinks in and then flares out at the hips. This is also known as an hourglass figure

Step 4.

When drawing arms from the back view, you should be sure that the back overlaps some of the back part of the arm like shown here.

Step 5.

Now we will start drawing out the two figures as shown here. Begin by drawing the head shapes, and then draw the guidelines for the bodies.

Step 6.

Thicken the shape of the heads, and then sketch out the back part of the ears. Next, sketch out the shoulders and then the necks. Add some definition and detail for a realistic look.

Step 7.

Now you will sketch out the back of the torso, and follow the lining all the way down to the waist, and hips. Notice how the female is more shapely than the male.

Step 8.

For the last drawing step, all you need to do is carefully sketch out the arms. When this is done add muscle definition, and all the detailing that a back would have like the shoulder blades, creases, and dimples. Erase the unwanted lines that you dr

Step 9.

Here is what they look like when all is said and done. Now you have a nicely drawn sketch of the human back. Color the figures in, or use them for your next character creation.

Description: Drawing people has become something of a hobby to me and because of that I have gotten really good at sketching out all sorts of body poses, people, children, and even anime and manga characters. Today, I thought I would upload a tutorial that can be very helpful to those that have a problem with drawing backs. There are so many different types of poses out there that an artist can draw their character creations in, but sometimes there is one pose that is overlooked but also used quite a bit. Today, I’m going to show you "how to draw a back", step by step. Now this tutorial is going to be very descriptive by providing helpful tips, and tricks to anyone that is having a hard time drawing the back of a human figure. Knowing how to draw backs is important as an artist because not everyone likes to draw their characters in a front, side, or ¾ view all the time. But that’s not the only reason. The back of a male or female character determines what type of body structure you are going to draw. This is because the shoulders, arms, and even the waist and buttocks are all parts of the back of a human figure. I believe this lesson will not only help those in need of a tutorial to teach one "how to draw a back", it will also give you more knowledge on how to draw a human body properly. Tackle each tip and drawing step with confidence, patience, and time. If you do those things, you will create a figure that is portioned and strong looking and ready to meet the world. Have fun everyone, and please let me know if this submission was a helpful one.
