Drawing Labradors, Realistic Dog Portrait Lesson

Artist: Dawn / October 26, 2016

Step 1.

Begin with the guidelines which are going to help make drawing the dogs easier. Start with the round shapes for the heads, then start drawing the guides for the bodies. When that is done you can sketch in the facial guidelines and limb guides.

Step 2.

Here we will start to sketch out the shapes of all the dogs heads. They are block in shape and have saggy jowls and ears.

Step 3.

Draw in the ears for the dog set way in the back. Sketch out the shapes of the eyes, add some shading and then detail their faces to give them that Labrador look. The expressions on their faces are almost all the same, but make no mistake each dog is

Step 4.

Take your time with this step cause you will need to sketch out their bodies and this includes all the legs and paws. Sketch in the creases and folds to their coats and make sure the necks are thick and strong.

Step 5.

Add a filler color to all three dogs. This will not only add shade and texture, it will also ready the shading and coloring process.

Step 6.

Add a nice backdrop to the scenery. In this case these Labradors are sitting pretty in a field somewhere. Don't forget the shading and highlights. Erase the mistakes and guides as well.

Step 7.

Here is the finished drawing when all is done. Now you can add some finishing touches before calling it done. I hope you enjoyed the tut folks.

Description: Hello everyone, I hope that the day is suiting you just fine as we move into a new day. For this middle aged day, I will start by showing all of you how to draw America's favorite dog breed, the Labrador. This realistic sketched style portrait is how almost every person around the globe visualizes the Labrador Retriever. Their soft, human like features and bog goofy personalities makes this dog breed one of the most loved canine species stand out. This lesson or sketch took me forever it seems from start to finish. All I can do now is just upload this tutorial and let you all learn from it. I have about four more lessons to upload so while I prepare them for submission, enjoy this tut on sketching dogs Labrador style.
