Drawing a Black Owl Step by Step

Artist: Dawn / May 20, 2016

Step 1.

Make a long egg shape or oval shape like so and sketch in the facial guidelines.

Step 2.

Using the guide shape that you just made, draw out the owl's body and head. Right now it sort of looks like a peanut. Once the body form is drawn, sketch out the feathery eyebrows and then the eyes. Make the lids and notice how the lashes feather out

Step 3.

Here you will simply draw in the wings which are closed onto the body. When that is done draw the owl's feet and then add a dimple to the chest. Don't forget the feather lines to create the detailing for the wings.

Step 4.

We will now draw a small oval for the beak and then fill in the area between the eyes with small feather shapes. Erase the guides and then the mistakes.

Step 5.

That's it, here is the line art. Now you can color in owl black, brown or what have you.
