How to Draw Surly From The Nut Job

1

Okay folks, draw the head and then draw out the torso. Add the neck and facial guidelines, and then you are ready for step two.

2

Next, sketch out the snout shape for Surly's face, and when you do this make sure that there is an open area for his lips or smile.

3

For step three you will draw out the shape of the eye, then draw in the markings that surrounds the eye. Also, notice how Surly has a thick short eyebrow. Draw that out as well then color it in. Add some whiskers, then draw the nose.

4

Finish drawing Surly's head by adding his ears, then draw the back part of the head shape. See how there is small notches along the lining for the ears and head? Make sure your drawing of Surly has the same marks.

5

We will begin working on drawing Surly's body. Start with the neck shape, then draw the small shoulders, arms and hands. As you can see the arms are crossed, as well as hairy.

6

Draw in the rest of his body minus the right leg and foot. The body is sort of shaped like a pear. When you draw the legs, make sure to add the hair and toes.

7

Finish things off by drawing the other foot. Add a dimple for the ankle, then you are done.

8

For the last drawing step all you have to do is draw out the long bushy tail. If Surly was to extend his tail fully, I bet it would be taller then him. Erase all the mistakes people and finish him off.

9

The line art comes out looking like the drawing you see here. Color everything in and show folks what you have drawn. Also be sure to tell them that you want to go see The Nut Job in January.

Description: I've been talking about the upcoming film 'The Nut Job' for a while because I am excited to go and see it. Despite the lessons I have already submitted on Drago based on the characters from the movie, I still haven't uploaded a lesson on "how to draw Surly", step by step. Surly is a purple colored squirrel that has ideas that aren't always in his best interests. The movie follows Surly the squirrel and his best friend Buddy (a rat) as they plan on robbing a store that is filled with, yup, you guessed it, nuts. Surly soon finds out that a simple plan ends up being a complicated adventure. I hope you have fun drawing Surly the squirrel, I still have some lessons coming your way.
