How to Draw North, Rise of the Guardians

Even though it may seem complex, drawing North should be easy for most. Start with a circle for the head and then add the facial guide.

You will now begin sketching out the shapes of his face which will make up the facial features. Start with drawing the shape of the face which is just the cheeks. Next, draw in the bushy eyebrows, as well as his broad nose. Under the nose coming from

Using facial guides begin drawing eyes as well as color in the pupils. Add some detailing to the mustache by adding strand lines. Also sketch in some definition around the eyes.

Cap the forehead with the lining from his Cossack hat. You will then sketch out the long beard that covers almost all of North's face. Draw in some chunks of hair on the beard, this will add texture and detail. Before you leave this step you will als

Finish drawing out the Cossack style Russian hat like so, then sketch in the broad shoulders in the form of fur stroked lining. Once you are happy with the end results you can begin cleaning up the drawing.

Here is what North looks like when you are all done. Now you can have some serious fun coloring him in. When the coloring is finished, you can add North to the gang of characters you already drew from Rise of the Guardians.

Description: As you some of you may know there are several main characters from the soon to be released movie 'Rise of the Guardians' that I haven't submitted yet as lessons. To start the day I will be showing you "how to draw North", step by step. Judging from the main image you would think that this fella looks a lot like Santa Claus and you're right he does, but that's because he is. What makes this version of Santa so different from the jolly old man we all know and love, is he has a strong Russian accent, and even has the attire as one too. He is going to be voiced by the very talented 'Alec Baldwin', and if you ask me I think he's perfect for the role. His fur Cossack style hat just screams Russia, and so does his heavy duty fur trimmed cloak or coat. In the movie Rise of the Guardians, North is not just the guy that brings presents to boys and girls around the world on Christmas Eve, he is also known as a very skilled warrior that is strong, rebellious, demanding, and he even has a fierce quality too. On his forearms he has these nice tattoos which says “Naughty” on one arm, and “Nice” on the other. He and his group of other evil fighting guardians such as Bunny, Sandman, and Tooth will all have to do their best to defeat Pitch or Boogeyman from turning a very bright hope filled world, to a dark, depressing world that Pitch is shooting for as a revenge tactic. I had a lot of fun drawing North even if he was a bit difficult, or challenging for me. I hope you enjoy this lesson too, and I also hope that you stick around to see who else I have in store.
