How to Draw Effie, Hunger Games, Elizabeth Banks

Step 1.

Draw the oval lightly with a No.2 or HB pencil. Make sure you draw it as seen in the picture. As it is not a perfect egg shape.

Step 2.

Now draw in the bisecting line to balance her facial features.

Step 3.

Sketch lightly the crescent red lines for hair line and head mass.

Step 4.

You can draw in the lines a. for eyebrows, b. for eyes, c. for nose, d. for mouth, e. for shoulder placements.

Step 5.

Now draw Effie's eyes.

Step 6.

Observe where Effie's features appear in relation to the guidelines. Draw in the her eyebrow, nose, mouth, and her face's outline.

Step 7.

Here's where you can focus better on her hair and rose adornment. Use those short curly strokes for her hair on the lieft side facing you. Try staying close to the lines that represent the direction of her hair. This will help as you shade it in.

Step 8.

You can see why I've broken down her hair into two steps. Take your time to apply the curls and lines. If you need to take a break, go ahead. That's what I do to keep focus.

Step 9.

If you haven't already, you can erase your guidelines. Also finish her flower boa and dress. Don't rush this, take your time, and keep looking at this picture reference to draw the lines in the right places.

Step 10.

Remember, there are three parts to this tutorial. #1) Is this Ink Drawing, which you can darken the pencil outline and be done or color it in. #2) You can continue to the pencil shading. Keep your outlines light. #3) The Profile Ink Drawing of Effie,

Step 11.

. Here is the outline done with a 0.7mm mechanical pencil. Look closely and see if your lines look something like this. You can erase if certain areas like the eyes or nose don't line up. Be patient with this, it's not as complicated as you may thin

Step 12.

This time Acrylics has won! Sandpaper, the new kid on the block has to take a back seat to my wonderful Titanium White for HIGHLIGHTS! Yaaaa! Try it, you'll like it!

Step 13.

The picture that goes with this step shows two different ways to hold your pencil to acquire certain effects. OVERHAND: Holding a sharpened pencil in normal writing form with fingers in the middle or near the lead gives you great control and thin/det

Step 14.

Step 16.

After printing out a number of the above template, practice shading in the values like this picture. You become familiar with this shading technique that gives you more control and confidence.

Step 17.

This is the first start. This is where you would sketch in small circles or lines to shade the areas. It would take hours upon hours to cover all that area with a pencil. I chose to shade with pastels. In a few strokes I've got area coverage. Applied

Step 18.

I put these two pictures close together on purpose. The first is shaded with a tissue (no blending stump). I can still see my outline pencil strokes. The second picture I used my kneaded eraser like a drawing tool. You can see how much highlight deta

Step 19.

If you are tackling this drawing, I tip my hat (if I had one) off to you! I'm not kidding. This is why this picture is advanced. The details in her rose, hair, and boa is challenging. The first picture, I used a blending stump on her face. Then I app

Step 20.

I sketched her hair in darker lines with my 0.7mm mechanical. The rose, boa and dress I used my 9B pencil and in larger darkened areas I used the 9B graphite crayon. For her lashes and shadow on her nose I used my 9B pencil. I also used dark and medi

Step 21.

*Do the dance of joy!* I have finally FINISHED! I took the pure white opaque watercolor and added more highlights to her hair strands, makeup, and sparkle in her eye. This pastel stuff really works well on Vellum paper that's nice and smooth. I am to

Step 22.

Description: Effie Trinket, a Capitol-born chaperone, is assigned to oversee District 12's tributes in the Hunger Games, specifically Katniss and Peeta in the 74th and 75th games. In the movie, played amazingly by Elizabeth Banks, she carries out such tasks as drawing the tributes' names at the reaping and escorting them to the Capitol. The pictures of Effie is modeled by Elizabeth. In the movie, there is a lot of makeup on Elizabeth Banks to give Effie that mature look. I've categorized this tutorial "Advanced" because of Effie's huge rose adornment, flowery boa, and curly hair. So this tutorial is in tribute to one of the engaging characters of this already popular movie and bestselling book. I wanted to treat you in this "Hunger Games" tutorial. You can draw Effie's 3/4 view, profile or both. I just want you to have fun. Let me know what you experienced by commenting, faving and voting. Much love to you all. I cannot wait to hear from you.
