How to Draw Cato, Hunger Games, Alexander Ludwig

Step 1.


Draw the oval lightly with a No.2 or HB pencil. Make sure you draw it as seen in the picture. As it is not a perfect egg shape.

Step 2.


Now draw in the bisecting line to balance his facial features.

Step 3.


Sketch lightly the crescent red lines for hair line and head mass.

Step 4.


You can draw in the lines a. for eyebrows, b. for eyes, c. for nose, d. for mouth, e. for shoulder placements.

Step 5.


Now draw Cato's eyebrows and eyes.

Step 6.


Observe where Cato's features appear in relation to the guidelines. Draw in the his nose and mouth.

Step 7.


Watch closely the sides of Cato's face and how it relates to the guidelines. As you draw, you will have more accuracy. Now sketch in his face and hairline, ears, chin, and neck. Since there are so many feathered lines in his hair I decided to do part   

Step 8.


Here's where you can focus better on his hair. Use those long strokes for his hair crowning at the top. Also the short jagged strokes will help with a feathered look. Try staying close to the lines that represent the direction of his hair. This will

If you haven't already, you can erase your guidelines. Also finish his V-neck T-shirt, shoulders and upper chest.

Step 10.


I made this line drawing especially for you if you don't want to do the pencil shading and blending part. Otherwise, let us continue to the pencil drawing part.

Here is the outline done with a 0.7mm mechanical pencil. Look closely and see if your lines look something like this. You can erase if certain areas like the eyes or nose don't line up. Be patient with this, it's not as complicated as you may think.

I sketched in darker with my 9B pencil his eyes & mouth. I placed my 9B pencil flat and barely touching the paper went over the darker side of his face. Between the shadowed hair strands, I used the point of the 9B. To blend, I twisted and curled my
