Draw the oval lightly with a No.2 or HB pencil. Make sure you draw it as seen in the picture.

Now draw in the bisecting line to balance his facial features.

Sketch lightly the crescent red lines for hair line and head mass.

You can draw in the lines a. for eyebrows, b. for eyes, c. for nose, and d. for mouth.

Now draw Barry's eyebrows, eyes, and glasses.

Examine and notice how his wrinkles, cheek shadow, nose and mouth appear in relation to the guidelines. Now draw them in.

Now look closely at how the lines of his hair flow together within the guidelines. Take your time. Patience is your best friend because with it, you'll be able to complete your drawing.

Now draw in the profile of his face, cheek, chin, and jawline.

Last but not least, draw in his neck (with wrinkles) and collar. If you haven't already, you can now erase your guidelines. The lines you couldn't erase, go ahead and blend them in if you will be shading your drawing.

This is the first start with the pastel application. If you do the whole picture in a pencil sketch, this is where you would sketch in small circles or lines to shade the areas. It would take hours upon hours to cover all that area with a pencil. I c

Here I used my blending stump to "draw" in more lines, add more shading to his hair, eyebrows, face, neck, and collar. The areas I needed to whiten, I did in the next step.

I sketched in more shading into her cheek lines and darkened her eyebrows and eye mascara with my 9B and 0.7mm pencils. With the 0.7mm mechanical pencil (HB lead), I defined his short hair.

Drawing like this is a gradual buildup. I keep sketching, blending and sketching some more. This time, I first blended the pencil sketches with my toritllon to give a smooth transition and to darken that area so it would lift so easily when smoothing

Here I added lots of highlights in his hair from looking at the reference picture. You can do this with white pastel, white titanium acrylic or watercolor paint. I also lightened his jaw area and smoothed it more by blurring with my digital program.
