How to Draw a Raptor Head

Artist: Dawn / September 2, 2013

Step 1.

Begin with drawing a bean like shape for the top portion of the raptor's head and jaw. Next, draw the bottom mandible, then proceed to step two.

Step 2.

Sketch out the actual structure of the raptor's head shape like so, and be sure to add the arched brows.

Step 3.

You will start by sketching out the detailing to the face which will add texture and realism. Draw out the eye and then add the scaly spots as well as crease lines.

Step 4.

Sketch out the bottom jaw, and when you do this make sure that the back part of the jaw is prominent.

Step 5.

You will now draw out the long sharp teeth that fills the mouth in rows. Once that is done sketch out the connective tissue for the back part of the jaw and mouth.

Step 6.

Finish sketching out the teeth, then draw the tongue and add detailing to the skin that fills the back part of the mouth.

Step 7.

For the last drawing step all you have to do is sketch out the neck and then add some last minute detailing to define everything out. Erase your mistakes as well.

Step 8.

Here is the line art for your raptor head when you are finished. Now you can color in your drawing.

Description: Okay folks, here is the last animal head that I have to submit, but after this lesson I will upload a couple characters from Star Craft. So here is my take on "how to draw a Raptor head", step by step. I think the velociraptor falls in the same ferocious category as the T-Rex because they are both ruthless, always ready to feed, and extremely carnivorous. I have always like the Velociraptor because of their slender and steadfast body. They were also one of the coolest dinosaurs in the movie 'Jurassic Park' which made me love them even more. I used to love dinosaurs like a fat kid loves cake and ice cream. They were almost my whole inspiration to start drawing, and to this day I still love doodling dinosaur/dragon hybrids. Enjoy draw a Raptor head folks and be sure to let me know if you liked the tut.
