How to Draw a Flying Gryphon

Step 1.


Let us begin by making a few shapes to create the body frame for the gryphon. Add some legs and small shapes for the feet or claws.

Step 2.


All you have to do here is draw in the beginning of the beak and then some of the forehead. Remember gryphons have eagle heads/faces.

Step 3.


Finish the beak and then add a pointed bird style tongue inside the mouth. You will make the marking line to separate the bill from the face like so, then draw in an eye.

Step 4.


We will sketch out the shapes of the ears, the rest of the head and face, then draw the neck and chest. Be sure to add some feathery fluff.

Step 5.


You will now draw the shoulder, then sketch in the arm with the large claw at the end. The talon should be sharp tipped and curled a bit like a bird foot.

Step 6.


You will now make the other talon/clawed front paw. Then sketch in the arm. Add some fluff on the elbows.

Step 7.


All you have to do here is draw in the texture detailing to the front legs. This is like scales of some sorts.

Step 8.


Draw in the back leg and back paw. The back end of a gryphon is like a lion.

Step 9.


Sketch out the shape of the back, then draw the other back leg and paw. Add some detailing to the back legs for muscle definition.

Step 10.


This is a simple step because all you have to do is draw in some feathery fluff on the side of the gryphon's neck.

Step 11.


What would a gryphon be without the enormous wings. Draw in the wings in a very majestic way. Add some detailing and then move to step twelve.

Step 12.


Add a marking to the tip of the wing like so.

Step 13.


Almost done folks. All we need to do is finish the tail, then sketch in the lion like tuft at the end of the tail.

Step 14.


You will add layers of feathers inside the wings, then you can start erasing the mistakes.

Step 15.


The line art should come out looking like the drawing you see here. Now you can have some fun as you color in the flying gryphon.
