Start with a single line for the cartilage of the feather.

Next, begin drawing the actual feathers on one side of the rib like so and color it in.

We will now draw in the other feathers on the opposite side of the rib like so and color that in too.

Thicken or darken the line down the middle of the feather as you see it done for you here, then start drawing the birds as the feather pieces break off.

For the last drawing step all you have to do is draw the remaining birds as they fly away and become free. Erase whatever mistakes you might have made.

Description: There is a popular design that I am seeing everywhere in tattoo parlors, on peoples backs, shoulders, and even legs. It's a very pretty concept and I like it so much, I wanted to make a lesson based on it. Today, I will show you how to draw a black feather, step by step. The feather starts off normal at the base and as you go further up, the feathers break off into small or different sized birds. I chose to make sparrows, crows and even doves. This is a simple drawing concept and I know that it will be popular amongst those of you who like feather tattoos or tattoos in general.
