Step 1.
Let's start with the head guide shape and then sketch in the facial guidelines.

Step 2.
Up next, use the guide you just made to sketch out the structure for Staley's face structure. Also, you will need to draw in the hair line, ear, and some facial hair on the side of his face.

Step 3.
Use the facial guidelines to sketch out the eyes. There are a couple creases on the upper lid area like you see here. When that is done draw the nose completely.

Step 4.
We will now sketch in the eyebrows using a soft stroke. When that is done add more detailing to the eyes and you can move to step five when done.

Step 8.
Lastly, add shading around the left eye and add shading to the right eye. You will also add a bit of shading under the nostril and when you are done proceed to erase the mistakes and all the guidelines/shapes.

Step 9.
Here is Layne Staley when you are done. Now just color him in or add shading to keep the drawing as a sketch.

Description:
If there is a singer that I admire more than any artist from the dark grunge music era (besides Kurt Cobain), it would definitely have to be Layne Staley. He was such an inspirational and brilliant song writer, using music as his therapeutic outlet in order to condition the intensity of his emotions. I love all of the Layne Staley Alice in Chains songs from every album. One of his infamous albums is 'Dirt' and 'Jar of Flies'. If you've never heard of this artist, please do listen to Alice in Chains; they are a great band that experiments with their music in most of their albums. When I heard news that Layne passed away from heroin overdose, I was shocked. I hope you guys will enjoy learning how to draw this genius songwriter and singer, because I had way too much fun working on him!
