How to Draw Spirit and Rain

Artist: Dawn / November 4, 2013

Step 1.

You will begin by making two head shapes like so, then sketch in the facial guidelines and neck guides.

Step 2.

Next, begin sketching out Spirit's face structure starting with the muzzle, jaw structure and then the ears. Make sure that the head is block shaped and also add a smile.

Step 3.

Okay, you will now have to sketch out the mane which is blowing in the wind. The mane should be thick, flowing and straight.

Step 4.

Sketch out the shape of the neck, and then draw the chest. This is a pretty simple task so don't strain yourself too hard.

Step 5.

Okay guys, you will be finishing up Spirit by drawing the marking line down the snout or muzzle, then draw in the shape of the nostril. Sketch in and color the eyebrow, then draw the eye.

Step 6.

The next thing you need to do is start sketching out the shape of Rain's head, muzzle and snout. Draw in the ears, then add definition to the ears.

Step 7.

Continue on with sketching out Rain's face by making the marking line down the muzzle, then draw the nose and mouth. Sketch in the eye and then draw and color in the eyebrow.

Step 8.

The next thing you will do is sketch out the shape of her neck, chest and some of her shoulder structure. Add definition to the chest and shoulders, then move along to the next drawing step.

Step 9.

You will finish this drawing on Spirit and Rain by sketching out their mane. Add some body and flow to her mane so it looks more feminine. Erase all the mistakes then you are all done.

Step 10.

That's it folks. You are done with drawing Spirit and Rain. Now you can enjoy yourself coloring in the two horses.

Description: Okay so here is a lesson that I had a lot of fun making. Like with a lot of you, one of my favorite movies of all time was Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. I can still remember the first time I watched this movie, I was in my room with a cozy warm blanket and just sat back and relaxed. Even though there was barley any talking with the horses, you still understood what was being said or expressed. The idea for this lesson was actually brought on when I approved artwork of a really nice drawing from a member. I said to myself "oh, that is so nice" and "I remember that movie". Hopefully you guys enjoy this tutorial on "how to draw Spirit and Rain", step by step. The lesson should be pretty simple so go ahead and knock yourself out. Adios mi amigos and enjoy your drawing day.
