How To Draw Serj Tankian, System of a Down, Serj Tankian

Do draw Serj Tankian, we should fist lay down some basic construction lines. Use a 2H or hard pencil and draw very lightly so that we can easily erase the lines later on. Draw an oval shape for the head, with a straight vertical line down the middle

The first part of the face you should draw is the eyes. Use your center guide line as a point of reference and draw the eyes resting directly on that line. Have the eyes open very wide. Draw the pupils at the base of the eye and make sure they are pe

Draw the eyebrows arched above each eye. The inner point of each eyebrow should align with the inner point of each eye. The outer points of the eyebrows should extend beyond the outer points of the eyes just slightly.

Draw the base of the nose resting on the second guide line of the face. Be sure that the nose is perfectly aligned with the center guide line of the face. Tankian's nose is slightly large, and in this case his nostrils should be flared somewhat.

Serj should have a big grin on his face, making his lips appear very thin. His upper lip does not need to be drawn since it will be covered up with facial hair in a later step. Draw the long vertical creases that are on either side of the mouth, whic

Draw the chin and jaw line. At this angle, Serj has somewhat of a wide jaw line. Be sure the very bottom of the chin aligns with the vertical guide line in the center of the face.

Serj's signature look is his facial hair. He always has a long goatee on his chin and often has a mustache. The ends of the mustache should point down on either side of his mouth. His goatee should have wavy whiskers in it.

Serj is also known for his long, thick, curly hair. Draw the hair falling down either side of his face, just barely resting on his shoulder. Draw short, curved, horizontal lines to represent curly hair.

Now that the head is done, draw his neck and shirt collar. The shirt collar can be a simple half circle shape. Draw a few wrinkles below the collar.

To make his outfit a little more interesting, draw him with an open vest with high collar. You will have to erase some of the hair to draw the collar. Draw a couple buttons on either side of the vest for fashion.

Draw his shoulders which should have a few diagonal wrinkles in the fabric emerging from under his arms.

Now that we have sketched out the image in pencil, let's take it one step further and ink it using either Micron markers, or a brush and India ink. Be patient and be careful not to go over any unneeded guide lines. A brush and ink works wonderfully w

Add shadow to the image so as to give it a greater sense of depth. Without shadow, the image will look flat and lifeless. Establish your light source, in this case it is coming from above, and shade the opposite side of his face, hair, and clothing.

And that's about it! If you need to add in any last minute details, feel free to do so. Here, I added in a horizontal wrinkle across his forehead. If you need to make any corrections, use white ink or opaque white paint. And that's how you draw Serj
