How to Draw Frankenstein

Artist: Dawn / January 9, 2008

Step 1.

First start off by drawing a big egg shape, this will be his head.

Step 2.

Next after you have a guide to work with shape the egg shape to a monsterish square shape.

Step 3.

After you have that down, sketch out the lines for his eyes, nose, ears, and neck.

Step 4.

Simple so far right? Now draw a line right over his eyes. This gives the illusion of a big forehead. Put more shape to his eyes that should look misshapen and uneven. Lines in his ears, nostrils in the nose and the lining for the mouth.

Step 5.

Give the eyes some eye lashes, sketch out the bolts in his neck, frown lines around the mouth, and his hair line.

Step 6.

Now you can start with the scaring on his face. Frankenstein is a monster created by the hand of a man, and because of that his face will look beat up from all the poking and pulling. He is a sad looking creature.

Step 7.

Sketch the shading above his eyes and draw his jacket as well. Your almost done. If you want to erase the guide lines in the sketch to finish your work.

Step 8.

Color in the mouth add more detail to the head and add a little more hair pieces to the head.

Step 9.

That is it your done. Now all you have to do is color him in if you want to.

Description: Before I start off the tutorial I would like to say that I am very new to sketching people. The tutorial I’m putting up today is a very rough sketch on "how to draw Frankenstein", step by step. I will give you some interesting information on this creature first. Frankenstein is not the name of the monster as most people think; it is the name of the scientist who created the monster. This creature was created and never named; instead he was referred to as “Monster” it holds a symbolism of him being parentless and how he lacks the sense of self and identity. This fictional character appeared in Mary Shelly’s novel Frankenstein. The novel would over time become a play and over time again be adopted by screenwriters and movie producers to turn Frankenstein from a book, to play, and from play to movie. Frankenstein the creature over more time became a popular scary monster for kids, especially around Halloween. Here is an easy step by step tutorial on how to draw Frankenstein with a realistic quality to him. I used a picture I found online as a guide for the sketch and the instructions. The hardest part of this drawing was giving the illusion of a big square head that was tattered and scared. When looking at the finished sketch the parts that have the black scribble is actually the shading. I like the way he came out and I proud of my creation. He really is an easy character to draw. You can also learn how to draw a cartoon Frankenstein step by step too. Peace peeps!
