How to Draw a Tattoo Lion, Tattoo Lion

1

Begin by making a few shapes. One for the head, another for the upper body, and then a cone like shape for the lower part of the body. Next, draw in guidelines for the face, neck, and arm.

2

Very simply begin sketching out the top part of the lion's snout and be sure to draw in the wrinkles on top of the snout like so. Make the wavy line for the mouth, and move to step three.

3

Sketch out the right lip like so, and then draw in the actual nose tip which will complete the lion's snout even more. Add some whisker spots or holes, and then sketch in some whiskers.

4

All you will do here is sketch out the right eye, and then thicken the outline of the eye and then draw in the eyeball.

5

Now it's time to sketch out the roaring mouth, and be sure to include both sides of the mouth. Draw in the teeth for the top and bottom row, and be sure that the fangs are big, sharp, and pointed.

6

You will now sketch out the the lining for the lion's mane which frames the face. Sketch in the jaw line and chin and be sure to make the lining long, wavy and very loose looking. Color in the emptiness inside of the mouth, and then draw in the tongu

Using the hair line you just drew, start drawing out the pulled back hair strands in thick chinks. Draw in the ears, and then continue to sketch out the mane until it's laying on the back or shoulder of the lion's body.

8

You will darken some lining in the lion's mane and be sure to make the chunky lining at the base of the head. This area should have the darkest of strands for added texture and definition.

9

Like with the tattoo panther, the legs and body of this big cat is going to be muscular and strong looking. You will begin sketching out the front legs, and some of the hind leg as seen near the elbow of the lion. Draw out the paw to the left, and th

You are already almost done with this tutorial. Here you will sketch in the bold lining that adds detail, and definition to the front legs. This shading will also add the muscle definition to both the leg and paw. Draw in the claws in better detail,

Okay guys, as you can see you are almost done. Sketch out the rest of the lions body starting at the back of the neck and work your way down. The back and thigh leg should also be very detailed and defined. Sketch out the long tail which is curled ov

Sketch out the back paw and nails, and then add last minute muscle detailing and definition to the back, thigh, and ribcage. Erase the guides and shapes that you drew in step one to clean up the drawing to make it perfect for coloring.

When all is said and done, your drawing looks like this. You should really consider coloring it in to make it even more grand, but that's your choice.

Description: The second tattoo design is going to be on another big cat species and this time I will do as a member asked of me and draw out the full body. I actually posted the finished drawing colored and all on my Facebook page and it got so many good reviews. I’m confident that for those of you that haven’t seen this tutorial you will enjoy learning "how to draw a tattoo lion", step by step. The new coloring technique that I have been experimenting with has been going really good. I’m digging all the different color combination's that I am creating and they are coming along just right. Typically drawing lions is a difficult task and it should be approached with precision and patience or you will end up with a drawing that is uneven and full of mistakes. Even though creating a lion design can be challenging and your drawing may not come out perfect when following the steps off of a tutorial, at least you can identify the mistakes you’ve made. I tried laying out this lesson as easy as possible so if you find it tricky to complete, don’t fret you’ll be fine. If you make a mistake just pick yourself up and try again. Lion tattoo designs are not as popular as the tiger or panther, but they are still very, very cool to consider when going for an inking job. Have fun as you learn "how to draw a lion tattoo". I will be back with more drawing fun so stay tuned in guys there is more on the way!
