How to Draw a Magnolia

Artist: Dawn / May 20, 2011

Step 1.

Begin with a circle in the shape of a small egg.

Step 2.

Now begin sketching out the stamen of the magnolia, and then be sure to shape out a bulb like base.

Step 3.

Already you will begin drawing out the petals of the magnolia bloom and as you can see all you will need to start with us three petals.

Step 4.

Continue to sketch out more pedals and this time they will be wider, and a bit more detailed.

Step 5.

For the last drawing step, draw out the last three pedals like so, and then erase the one guide that you drew in step one.

Step 6.

That's it folks, you are all done drawing this magnolia. Now you can add some color and add it to the rest of your sketch book with the flower drawing. Thanks so much for joining me today!

Description: Well guys, the time has come to say good-bye for the day but before I depart I want to upload this tutorial on "how to draw a magnolia", step by step. These flowers are often seen in department and home improvement stores. The magnolia flower or tree was discovered by a Charles Plumier back in 1703. He found the beautiful tree on the island of Martinique which is east from the Caribbean Sea. To locals the tree that produced the flowers that Plumier admired was called a talauma. Plumier eventually renamed the plant Magnolia after a French botanist, Pierre Magnol. Magnolias are the state flower of Louisiana, and have been since the beginning of the 1900s. It is a very pretty bloom and it can sometimes be a desired food for some animals. It is the seed of the magnolia that is eaten by critters like squirrels, opossums, turkeys, and even quail. Almost every part of the magnolia tree and flower is a very beneficial ingredient for things like pharmaceuticals, and furniture. The tutorial came out to be very pretty, and I think you will enjoy learning "how to draw a magnolia" especially if you are a big flower lover. Thatโ€™s it for me, I will be back tomorrow with more drawing fun. Adios people and thanks for joining me today on this fun filled artistic day!
