Step 1.
Okay, let's start this first step by drawing out the beginning shapes and guidelines for the carnation as follows. Start with a circle and then add the center lines. You will draw a straight vertical line for the stem and then add two leaf lines.

Step 2.
Okay now this is the part where you have to sketch out the shape of the pointed looking pedals as shown. All you have to do is start with four pedals and then sketch out the base of the flower. You will then add the leaves and thicken the stem.

Step 3.
You have reached your third step and as you can see once you are done here your carnation should come out looking more whole. Sketch out more of the carnations pedals as you see them here with the biggest being on the outside. Once you have done that
you can move to the next step. See so far this is pretty simple right?

You have finally made it to the last drawing step and as you can see all you have to do is sketch out the rest of the pedals on the top of the carnation. You can then start erasing the guidelines and circle shape that you drew in step one.

Step 5.
Once your flower is complete you should end up with a carnation that looks like the one you see here. All you have to do now is add some color and you have just finished this lesson on how to draw a carnation flower step by step.

Description:
I hope you guys liked the first three tutorials that I submitted earlier today. For my fourth lesson I thought I would do something fun, easy and pretty. I will show you "
how to draw a carnation
", step by step. Now a carnation is a very versatile and old flower that has been around for two thousand years. It is a very durable and strongly scented flower which is why it is so popular. You will commonly see an abundance of carnations during certain holidays like Valentines Day, Mother’s Day, Easter, and the more popular St. Patrick’s Day. During Valentine’s Day the carnation is colored pink and red. During Mother’s they are dyed pink, red, yellow and even purple. Easter has a variety of pastel looking colors from green to yellow as well as blue and purple. One of the most common colored carnations is a darker shade of green to represent the Irish holiday St. Patrick’s Day. I am submitting this tutorial to show some love for St. Patty’s day and because of that I added a series of clovers in the background. The lesson is easy to learn because I laid the steps out so they are easy to follow and read. When you learn how to draw this flower you will have the ability to color it in accordance with any holiday you wish. But in the mean time have fun learning how to draw a carnation flower step by step. I will be back in a minute so stay tuned kiddies, I shall return.
