How to make realistic fire on GIMP

Make the background black and draw white lines on it.

Use the smear tool to smear the lines up.You can slant them right or left,but not down.

Open "Color Balance". On shadows and Midtones,set Red to 100,Green to 30,and Blue to -30.On Highlights,set Red to 100,Green to 0,and Blue to -100.
