There are various differences between African and Asian elephants.
The African elephants are bigger than the Asian, they have very large ears that cover the shoulders, the top of their cranium is flat and and their trunk (an extension of the upper lip and nose) has two opposing extensions at its end.
The Asian elephants are smaller than the African, their back is convex, the ears are small and the feet have more nail-like structures than those of African elephants: five on each forefoot, and four on each hind foot. They also have only one extension at the end of the trunk.
