How to Draw Reptar

Artist: Dawn / April 16, 2010

Step 1.

Start with a circle for the head, and then add another slightly oval shape for the body. Attach the head to the body with a neck line, and then draw the arm, and tail lines.

Step 2.

Now sketch out the shape of Reptar's nose, and lower jaw. Once that is done you can draw in the eye, and then draw the first spike on the head.

Step 3.

Finish drawing out the inside of the mouth which includes the tongue, teeth, and back of mouth. You can then draw the nostril shape and hole, as well as the slit in the eye, and then bumps for the brow. Draw more of the head shape and some of the nec

Step 4.

Draw the entire shape of Reptar's body like you see here including the arms, hands, legs, and one visible foot. Once that is done you can add a bit more detailing to the body like you see here.

Step 5.

To finish off Reptar, all you need to do is draw out the lower belly, and then the rest of the tail. Draw more flower like spikes on the tail, and then draw the remaining foot and toes. Erase the lines and shapes that you drew in step one.

Step 6.

When you are done, Reptar should look like the one you see here. Color him in and you have yourself a finished drawing of one of the Rugrat's famous dinosaurs.

Description: The Rugrat's is a cartoon show that airs on Nickelodeon and nowadays, the series is moving on to being a classic. I received a request to do a lesson that teaches the artist or viewer “how to draw Reptar", step by step. If you have watched Rugrat's before, you should be familiar with Reptar. He is a green colored dinosaur that Tommy Pickles' father, Stu Pickles, invented along with some other gizmos and gadgets. Reptar made his first debut in 1991 with “At the Movies”. In the first movie, Reptar was just a kids wagon that Stu built. He was initially supposed to go to Japan, but instead the kids accidentally took him along their adventures through the forest. In “Rugrats in Paris”, Reptar was a humongous robot that Tommy and his friends used to stop the wedding of Chuckie's dad to a woman that just wanted to use the two of them to promote herself further up the career ladder. Anyway, this will probably be one of the more easier dinosaurs to draw because when it comes time to "draw Reptar", you will definitely succeed. I will be back later with two more tutorials so stay tuned in, to check those out in a few. Peace out people, and have a happy drawing day.
