How to Draw Koi Fish

You will begin by making two head shapes or guides like so, then draw in the bodies for each koi.

The first thing you will do is work on getting the head of the first koi drawn out. As you know koi fish have small whiskers that hand from their faces near the corners of their mouths.

Next, draw in the second koi fish head, then move to step four. You will draw in both heads exactly the same.

Here you draw in the eyes in a nice, elegant manner, then draw in the top lid line for the mouth.

Do exactly the same thing for the second koi fish like so, and when you're done you can move along to step six.

The next thing we will do is draw out the fish's body. This should be in a curl or arched over pose. Draw the fins and then add rib detailing to the fins as well.

Here you will detail the end of the koi fish tail and when you do so make the separation line to tell the difference from the skin and the fin or tail.

You will now add the scales on the fish's surface for texture detailing.

Up next, draw the body for the second koi fish and then be sure to add the dorsal fin which is in a curly manner.

Detail the tail fin and draw in the pectoral fins. You will also need to detail the dorsal fin too.

This is actually your last drawing step. All you have to do is draw in the scales for the final step. Erase the mistakes and you are done.

This is the line art when you are done. Now you can have a blast as you color in the two koi fish using shades you like.

Description: The inspiration for this drawing came to me when I watched an old episode of The Last Airbender when Aang went to The Northern Water tribe to learn water bending but instead helped the whole village through a massive fight with the Firebenders. Anyways, the koi fish inspiration came from the two in that same episode that swam in the water. One was black, the other was white. This is just a more detailed version of sacred koi fish and since I have never did anything like this tut before, I think you will enjoy it even more.
