How to Draw Plague Doctor

Step 1.


Let's get started shall we? Go ahead and draw the guidelines, but mostly shapes for the good doctor. The circles at the bottom are for the skulls.

Step 2.


Using the shapes you just made, I want you to draw out the body lining of the plague doctor until you have the outer shape of the doctor's figure drawn out. He is wearing a hooded cloak and the mask is that of a crow with the oxygen tubes off to the    

Step 3.


We will tackle the first crow and the arm of plague doctor. Let's draw the sleeve for the arm first and then draw the piece of cloak. Sketch in the detailing and definition and then draw the crow which is perched calmly with the head down. Sketch in    

Step 4.


You will draw the hand for the plague doctor and then draw the stone that he is holding in his hand that the crow is perched on.

Step 5.


We will complete the face formation for the good doctor and when you do this be sure that the eye shape is defined with a thick black ring. This will help create the bulging look of the eye from the mask. The stitched mouth should be created on the b   

Step 6.


We will now get started drawing out some of the skulls. The smaller one should be drawn in second after you draw the larger one first. Draw the eye hollows and then the nose. Color in the cavities solid and then draw the teeth for the skull. Add the    

Step 7.


Go ahead and draw another skull which is also smaller than the larger one just off the front side. You will now color in the eye hollow, just draw in the top row of teeth and add detailing to the skull's surface.

Step 8.


Now you can color in the sockets for the skull you just created and then color in the nasal cavity as well as some of the mouth. Once that skull is complete you can draw yet another skull and repeat the same task as you did with the other three.

Step 9.


We will draw some spiking bones just under the plague doctor's body. This is actually the throne or seat he is sitting in. Add detailing to the curled bones and you are done here.

Step 10.


We are almost done. All we will do here is draw out the shape of a huge stoned celtic cross. Since this is a stone cross, you will need to draw the detailing for the cracks and chips within the stone. When you are done drawing the cross you are ready   

Step 11.


Lastly, draw a large oval shape which is sort of like a frame around the whole concept of plague doctor. He is in his realm or domain just waiting to be called. You can erase the mistakes and all the guides to clean up the drawing.

Step 12.


That's it. You are finally done. Now you can color in the art and add a fitting background to the plague doctor. I do hope you enjoyed the lesson as much as I did.

Description: Many of you may be seeing this figure around the web lately because of the awful virus going around that is very aggressive and has already killed so many people and infected much more. Today I will be showing you how to draw plague doctor, step by step. This version of the plague doctor came out really nice and I am happy to say that I am satisfied with its outcome. Some of you may have watched me draw this figure live, and some of you may have not. I had so much fun with creating my version of the Plague doctor and I hope many of you choose to tackle this tutorial as well. Some history of this figure is pretty interesting. First off, there was not just "ONE" doctor. Instead there where multiple of these physicians and they called them "plague doctors" because they are the ones who worked with patients who suffered from the bubonic plague, hence the name "plague doctor'. Another thing that was interesting about these doctors, is the fact that they worked on any individual that was sick because they were hired by towns and paid an upfront salary to do so. Because of this no patients were turned away and they treated all victims in times of epidemics.
