How to Draw a Raven, Skull and Rose

Start the step with three guide shapes for the raven, skull and rose. You will then draw the guides for the face of the skull and the wings of the raven.

Up next, we will draw out the raven's beak which is screeching wide open. Add shading inside the mouth and then draw in the tongue in the center of the out. Add the lining too to separate the beak from the inside of the mouth.

Form the shape of the raven's head and then draw and color in an eye.

Here is where you will draw out the raven's body along with the long flowing wings. Add the feather detailing to the edges of the wings like you see here.

Add more layers to the outer wing to the left and also sketch in all the feathery detailing to that wing as well. When that is done you can draw the flared tail feathers.

The raven's legs and talons are next. Draw the long clawed talons in a clutching pose because this raven is in flight with a skull clutched on his talons.

Now you can get started with draw out the skull in better detail. Sketch out the shapes of the eye sockets and then the nasal cavity. The hollows of the eyes are going to be filled with smoke. You also have to sketch in the detailing and definition a

Begin drawing the rose next. Start in the center and work your way out when forming the rose. The petals get bigger and bigger as you work your way out and the edges of the petals begin to fold over as you can see.

Draw in the large petals in layers. Once that is done you can sketch in all the detailing to the rose.

Draw the rest of the skull's head shape and add more definition on the skull's surface too. When that is done you can draw the leaves as well as the definition to the leaves.

For the last drawing step all you have to do is draw the whispering smoke emitting from the eyes which scatters around the skull and rose. Erase the mistakes and guides when you are all done.

Description: This next piece of concept art was a complete surprise to me when I was finished with the lineart. I say this because at first there was no rose in the skull head mouth. Instead there was a nest. There was no smokey glow being omitted from the eyes, instead they were just eyeballs that seemed as though they were going to bulge out of the sockets.Instead, I began to start drawing with an inner inspiration coming from Edgar Allen Poe. The poem 'Raven' imparticulary was the one verbal piece that lead me to create this lesson on how to draw a raven, skull and rose, step by step. I love, love, love the way that this tutorial or art piece came out. All the way down to the raven and leaves on the rose. I will label this lesson as advanced because there are lots of aspects to this piece that needs to be handled in a calm, non-rushing manner.
