Description: Flamingos are one of the prettiest birds that exist in the world today. Their famous pink feathers, long bold bills, and thin lanky legs are probably their recognizable trademarks that make them stand out from any other species of bird that’s out there. Greater flamingos thrive in warm watery regions on many continents of the world. Places like Africa, Asia, North and South America, and Europe. There are a total of six different species of flamingo with the Greater flamingo being the most plentiful of them all. They are currently not in any danger of extinction, and this is because they are so wide spread and habitats for these birds are not a hard thing to come by. This is a bird that prefers to be near lakes and mud holes that have a high saline balance. The Flamingos long bent bills allows them to feed on small live organisms like crustaceans, algae, small fish and other lake dwellings. Did you know that flamingos get their pink color due to the shrimp like crustaceans that are consumed by them? In fact when they live in captivity they are not pink at all they have a pale white look to them. They live and breed in colonies and range in sizes. Weighing in at almost 9 pounds and sizing up to be 60 inches tall this makes them one of the tallest bird species around. Bugsy Segal opened the first casino ever built and it was called “The Flamingo”. I personally think they are very beautiful birds even if they do stand on one leg most of the time. They keep one foot in the mud to dig up food; this makes it easier for them because they don’t have to keep moving around the water holes. Learning how to draw a greater flamingo step by step is an easy thing to accomplish. You will be surprised how simple it is to sketch out this pink sleek bird with these easy to read online instructions. Leave a comment and tell me what you think.
