How to Draw Ponies

1

This is what this type of pony should look like when being viewed from the side. As you can see the legs are in perfect alignment, and the head and face is well defined.

2

When drawn from a 3/4 view the pony looks like the one you see here. The legs can be seen individually, and the other side of the pony's face can be seen. The tail is also more prominent as well.

3

This is just another pose that the pony is in at a 3/4 view. As you can see the face is a little more clearer, and the body pose is more active.

4

When drawing ponies with character and style, you are literally giving them their own sense of attitude. I was asked to draw some of the members on Dragoart in their pony form. Can you figure out who is who?

5

Begin by making a circle for the head, and then draw in a bean like shape for the pony's body like you see here. Don't forget that one facial guideline.

6

Here you will begin sketching out the shape of the pony's head and jaw structure like you see here and don't forget to add that eye and eyelash too. Also, you might want to draw in a mane hair line.

7

Here you will first sketch out the shape of the large eye, and then draw in the bold lining for the lid and lashes. Next, sketch in some nostril holes, eyebrows, and the smirk of a mouth. When the face is complete you can begin draw in the pretty man

8

Draw in her pretty eyes, and the color in the pupils. If you want this pony to be a boy, just change the mane style, and exclude the lashes. Draw in the strand lines on each chunk or horse hair, and then draw in the detailing for the ear.

9

You are almost done, and as you can see all you have to do is draw in the neck, and then the chunky front legs, and the back and butt.

10

Draw the chest and belly like so, and then draw out the thigh and hind leg and then the other hind leg that is hidden in the back. If you want you can start erasing all the lines and shapes that you drew in step one.

11

For the last drawing step all you need to do is draw out the tail and then you are all done. You already erased the lines and shapes that you initially drew, all you have to do now is see how the pony is supposed to look.

12

Here is what the finished drawing looks like when you are all done. Now you can choose some shades and color in your newly drawn pony to your liking. Thanks for joining me with this tutorial on how to draw ponies.

Description: How many times have you searched for a lesson that can show you "how to draw ponies", step by step? I know when I was in my beginning stages of drawing, horses and ponies was some of the animal species on my list to learn how to draw. I was going to do a traditional tutorial on an actual pony, but I thought that this version would be liked just a little bit more. Of course I do realize that some artists would like to have a genuine lesson on a real looking pony and I plan on submitting a lesson on such a concept. There is a whole other world out there when drawing animals and since a lot of the artist that come to Dragoart are in their beginning stages, or just getting out of the novice artist criteria, making a cartoon like version of ponies is going to be easier to tackle. The great thing is, I sort of made the pony to look like the very popular horses from “My Little Ponies”. There is four tip steps that will aid you to drawing ponies in a clearer more detailed manner. Have fun with this tutorial guys, and remember I will eventually submit another lesson on a traditional pony in the very near future. Peace out and enjoy!
