Step 1.


Here is a sketch I did of the many expressions of a horses face when you go ahead and draw out some great heads for this animal. As you can see I based some of the facial expressions on Spirit because he is one of the more popular horses that has bee

Now, this is a sketch or example on how a horses jaw or underside should look when you are attempting to draw a horse from an angled view point. Notice how the dimension is full, and sort of flat looking.

There are some pretty important things that you need to keep in mind when drawing a horse and it's expressions. You have to be sure that the ears go along with what your horses face is trying to say, and you must pay close attention to how you draw t

Some of the more important facial detailing that you should try and stay on top of is the eyes, shape of the muzzle, and the mouth and chin. These key factors will help you get the expression, and detailing you are looking for. Horses have very bold,

When drawing the side view of a horse, try to pay attention to how the ears, and mouth are drawn. This will dictate on how strong of an appearance your horse sketch will give off. Strong, and properly drawn features, equals good effects.

Step 6.


Lastly, if you want to draw a horse with it's head on a downward view point to portray a sort of soft affection, keep in mind that the muzzle, cheeks, and mouth all have to appear as though they are falling forward. This includes the mane as well. Th

Now let's get started with drawing the head shall we? Start by making one medium sized circle for the head, and then a smaller circle for the top or tip of the muzzle which is also the mouth. Add a long semi arched line for the neck, and then connect   

Step 8.


The next step is to start sketching out the actual shape or structure for the horse's muzzle. You must first draw a notch for the brow, and then continue on with the bridge of the horse's nose. Incorporate this same lining into the mouth, and then st   

Step 9.


Finish sketching out the eyes, and then begin drawing in the eyebrows, and the rest of the horses head shape which is the jaw line. Horses seem to have this large lump like shape for their jaws, and getting the shape drawn right can sometimes be diff   

Step 10.


Now lets start filling in that beautiful mane. Most manes are always drawn looking full, and luxurious. For our horse, you will sketch out the mane to go off to the left side. Make sure that the hair falls over the left side in a soft and gentle type   

Step 11.


Now, finish off sketching out the mane's ends, and when you are done draw the top of the horses neck. Add some definition to the muzzle like so, and then add some detailing to the hair itself. Now you can begin erasing all the guidelines and shapes y

Description: How about another horse related lesson for the books. I received countless requests for me to do a tutorial that could teach you guys "how to draw horse heads", step by step. The reason why I am on a horse kick today, is because I haven’t really submitted any good horse tutorials in soo long. So having said that, I will not only teach you to draw a horse head, I will also give you some cool tips and pointers how to create the head you are looking for when it comes to character creation, and expressions. There is so many ways one can choose to make a horse to do exactly what you want them too. The only problem that most people have, is actually drawing the animal right, and realistic. Now don’t get me wrong I am no pro when it comes to sketching out realistic looking horses, but I do know how to play with lining to make a horse look real, cartoony, and even somewhere in between. For the most part, the hardest thing about drawing these majestic animals, is their heads and everything that comes with it. The mane is simple to get right, but when it comes time to draw a horse head, that can get pretty tricky because the bone structure of a horse is so darn detailed and defined. I think I did a pretty good job with this lesson which means you should be drawing horses in no time at all once you have finished this tutorial on "how to draw horse heads". If you plain on drawing the stallion that I submitted earlier, you might want to tackle this lesson first before you do so. Only because you’ll develop a good understanding on how to create one of the hardest parts to a horses body. Well, that’s it for this tutorial description.
