How to Draw Rasta Art

Begin with a circle for the head and then sketch in the facial guidelines along with the lower jaw guide.

Using the guides that you made in step one, begin sketching out the bone structure for the cheeks. When that is done you can draw an elongated jaw/chin which is also very square. Add detail around where the mouth will be as well.

Next, begin sketching out the shapes of the Rasta style skull eyes like so. They should be long as well with flat upper lids to create the expression. Draw in the nose hollow and then add some detailing to the bone around the cheeks and upper jaw.

Finish the mouth by drawing the teeth for both the top and bottom parts of the mouth. Notice how some of the teeth on the bottom are thick or fat shaped. This is to create dimensional and style.

Instead of drawing the skull head we will fill that space with a hat. These hats are called 'Rastacaps' and they come in many different sizes, styles and shapes.

Add your knit detailing to the Rastacap like so which is only a few vertical lines or stripes. When that is done you can proceed to step seven.

Now is the time that we will finish the drawing and to do that you will need to draw in the dreads. These locks of hair should be thick, rope like chunks. Erase your mistakes and guidelines.

That is all there is to it. Now you can color in your Rasta art to look like an awesome drawing.

I'm doing very well despite the heat and bugs and to prove that I have everything under control I will be showing you some cool art. Let's start with how to draw Rasta art, step by step. Rasta is short for 'Rastafarian'. Even though folks use the word to describe a certain type of lifestyle or style, in all reality it's actually a religious movement created by Jamaicans. This art is of a skull concept wearing dreadlocks and a typical cotton style hat. I love how the design came out and I do think that folks will love it too. As you tackle this lesson I will prepare my next tuts for you all so stay put and remember to keep those fingers moving.
