How to Draw a Katana

Step 1.


Okay lets start off this step by drawing the frame and the sword sleeve. Because this is going to be a very simple tutorial to sketch or draw out I didn't use any vertical or horizontal lines going down the middle. Starting at the tip, try and keep y   

Step 2.


Now in this step all you will be doing is drawing out the detailing on the handle of the sword. This is a typical diamond shaped design, but you can use any design you want to on your own katana sword. Detail the blade a bit by adding two or three li   

Step 3.


This is a very short and sweet step but it will take some time to get it right. What you are gong to be doing is lightly sketch out the dragon head and serpentine body that is wrapped around the butt of the sword. I used a dragon because not only do

The way these swords where carried on the soldiers were blade side up in a sleeve that was attached to the hip and hung down the side of the leg. The Katana sword became a standardized issue for soldiers over time, these swords where being forged by the hundreds during the years 1190-1337 and many of them had assigned National Treasures. The samurai sword has become a very popular weapon that’s been used in numerous motion pictures and cartoons. With the film “The Last Samurai” Tom Cruise plays a solider that has been taken prisoner by the samurai army of Japan. He is later trained to fight like a samurai and becomes friends with the people of the village and the captain and falls in love with the Japanese woman that was instructed to care fro him. The other mainstream movie that had a Katana sword the main weapon for a blonde headed girl that was out for revenge because she was shot in the head and left to die while she was pregnant was Kill Bill vol. 1&2. A cartoon series called Samurai Jack is also a cartoon about a young samurai that grew up an orphan and was trained by a great samurai master. His main goal was to get revenge for the death of his parents but is always side tracked by helping villagers defeat the foes that terrorize the people that live there. After assisting the people he would then travel through a portal to another location until he faces the enemy that took the lives of his parents. The samurai sword has been a popular item that is collected by people from all over the world. The most collected samurai swords are from the WWI and WWII era, having said all that this tutorial shows you the easiest way to draw a Samurai sword or Katana sword with step by step instructions. I sketched out this sword and added a dragon at the top of the handle just to add some pizzazz to the sketch.
