Step 1.
Alright start by sketching out the form "section by section" with overlapping ovals. It should look almost like a chain with an egg(the head) at the end.

Step 2.
Using the form of the "chain" as a guide, outline the snake. Remember to use smooth curves, NO STRAIGHT LINES!

Step 3.
Lightly separate the body into segments. Notice how the lines follow the twisting and bending of the snake's body.

Step 4.
Using the guidelines from the previous step, add in the spot patterns. You only need the basic outlines for now.

Step 5.
Fill in the spots with some charcoal, or if you don't have charcoal fill them in with pencil. Don't be too worried about filling them in perfectly.

Step 6.
Alright first take a tortillion and blend the spots in. Then, with the "dirty" torlillion, lightly blend over the entire snake. You are going blur some of your previous lines here but that is okay!

Go in and restore the outlines that you lost around the snake and its spots. Make them as dark and clear as you can. No "fuzzy" lines!

Step 8.
Add a few shadows around the snake to make it pop out more. Either using an eraser or a white charcoal/chalk pencil, add white outlines around the dark spots. If your outlines com fuzzy, lightly add an outline around them with a pencil.

Step 9.
If you are a stickler for detail you can spend more time adding detail to the skin. All that I did here was add the snake scales. Just remember that the lines follow the form of the snake and add a few here and there. Do some final blending, add a fe
w detail here and there, and you have yourself a snake!
