This is the first step to drawing a rose. Draw a stem with two bottom pedals. I used a #2 pencil in the whole tutorial.

Now you will add some pedals to the middle, some people start drawing their roses from the middle, but I think it's almost as simple this way.

Keep adding the pedals, and be careful with each one. As you can see at the middle of the flower the pedals get smaller and smaller.

Time for the really tiny pedals! Add them in slowly and then draw in the pedals showing from the other side, in this tutorial the rose is facing up.

Finish off the pedals and draw the leaves sticking out from the very top of the stem. Then, draw the grass at the bottom of the stem, just draw lines sticking up. The grass is optional but it adds more to the picture.
