How to draw Layne Staley

Step 1.

Draw a circle then the jaw line under it. Make the guidelines for the eyebrows , eyes and mouth. Roughly sketch the ear, neck , shoulders and collar .

Step 2.

Make the outline of his face and hair, sketch the collar of the jacket and the microphone he's holding .

Step 3.

Now sketch the final details .

Step 4.

Your sketch should look a bit like mine .

Step 5.

Quickly hash the main dark areas on him .

Step 6.

Now smudge everything .

Step 7.

Now add a second darker layer which you will have to smudge as well .

Step 8.

Make additional shadows on the face and make the main dark parts on the hair .

Step 9.

Finish the hair.

Step 10.

Now shade the microphone .

Step 11.

Now make the background and part of the collar black. Leave a few white areas.

Step 12.

Using a dark pencil shade around the white areas. This leaves a nice texture which looks like leather .

Description: Layne Thomas Staley was an American musician who served as the lead singer and co-songwriter of the rock band Alice in Chains, which he founded with guitarist Jerry Cantrell in Seattle, Washington in 1987. Alice in Chains rose to international fame as part of the grunge movement of the early 1990s. The band became known for his distinct vocal style, as well as the harmonized vocals between him and Cantrell.Staley was also a member of the supergroups Mad Season and Class of '99. By mid-1996, Staley would be out of the public spotlight, never to perform live again. Staley also struggled throughout his adult life with depression and a severe drug addiction, culminating with his death on April 5, 2002.
