How to Draw a Tomahawk

Step 1.


Start with a simple circle for the head of the tomahawk. You will then draw a series of lines for the handle, feathers, and head. Add a numb at the top of the head as you see here.

Step 2.


You will now draw the tomahawk head and cutting edge the way you see it done here. If you want you can just make a smooth edge or you can add a few notches in it to express the age of the weapon. Begin the lines for the cris cross leather around the    

Step 3.


You will draw out the shape and thickness of the tomahawk handle and then draw out the strap lines that hold the head to the handle as you see here. You will also add an anchored line to show the thickness of the head. Begin drawing out the braided l   

Step 4.


In this next step you will draw out and detail the two feathers that are connected to the upper part of the handle below the head. Next sketch out and draw the handle of the tomahawk. The effect I am going for here is wrapped in cloth for easy grippi   

Step 5.


This is a cool extra tip step that tells you how to draw the tightly drawn cloth on the handle. Just enlarge the step and read what it says. I don't think it would make any sense if I were to rewrite what I wrote in the extra step.

Step 6.


Make sure you detail your feathers. Erase the guidelines and shapes that you drew in step one to clean up your drawing.

Step 7.


This is the end result of your Indian tool/weapon. Just color it in and you have just completed this easy lesson on how to draw a tomahawk step by step. Now wasn't that fun everyone?

Description: That was a fun lesson on how to draw dancing people wasn’t it? Let’s move to something more cool and exciting. I wanted to do another tutorial on a weapon and since I have really been getting into Native American culture, I figured I would do a lesson on how to draw a Tomahawk step by step. I know what you must be thinking “tomahawk…yes!” This is very popular tool and weapon that was used by Native Americans. These axe like tools were used by the Natives as a weapon. The word “tomahawk” comes from the Algonquin tribe which was translated into the English language back in the seventeenth century. The weapon is used as is being held by a hand, or it can be used as a thrown weapon. The tomahawk consists of an axe like top plate or "head". It only weighs between ten and twenty ounces and the blade or cutting edge is only four inches wide. The design of the head is sometimes often woven together with leather like material (usually the hide from an animal). They come in many different shapes, sizes and designs. A traditional tomahawk only has a two foot handle and consist of ash, maple or hickory wood. A typical looking tomahawk that you may imagine has either one or two feathers hanging and attached to the design and build. Real Indian tomahawks have detailed designing with feathers and wrapped handles. Tomahawks were originally made by Indian blacksmiths but when the Americans arrived and learned of the unique tool/weapon, large amounts of tomahawks were being produced throughout Europe and the U.S. This Indian weapon is really easy to draw. When you learn how to draw an Indian tomahawk step by step, you too will have a chance to create and decorate the weapon the way that you see fit.
