How to Draw a Rat Rod Mechanic

1

Start off with your guidelines and your shapes to create the workable frame for your rat.

2

Using the head guide go ahead and draw out the rat's pointed, long snout and then the narrow shape of the bottom jaw.

3

Here you will define the nose by drawing the nostrils and then you will draw in the whisker holes.

4

Make two circles in a bulging fashion for the eyes.

5

Now you can draw in the cockeyed eyeballs, then a couple whiskers.

6

Next, draw in the rats gnarly teeth which are all broken, misshapen and crooked.

7

Go ahead and draw out the shape of the ear which should have a tear in it as well. Detail inside the ear and when that is done give this rat a long skinny neck followed by a small shoulder and the collar of the shirt with a short sleeve cuff. You wil

8

Finish the torso by drawing the bulging belly from also being an unhealthy mechanic. Add detailing to the shirt for texture and to show it is dirty.

9

Give this mechanic a ball cap style hat and then the tip of the other ear.

10

You will now draw in the crimped legs and then the nasty clawed feet and nails. Add detailing to those jeans too.

11

Draw in the other arm and hand as well as the wrench he is holding.

12

Lastly, draw the shape of the long, hairless, crooked tail, add an engine to the hat and then some letters, I chose "DUH". Color in the pupils and inside the nose as well as inside the mouth and also add a couple more whiskers. Erase the mistakes too

13

That's it you are all done. Now you can color in this rat rod mechanic.

Description: Hello hello. Here I am back with another lesson on a made up creation that came to me as I randomly started thinking about rats and mechanics. Today I am going to show you how to draw a rat rod mechanic, step by step. For those of you who don't know, rat rods are an actually thing. The term 'rat rod' stems from a term used to describe a certain style/condition of cars created from back in the 30s as well as into the 40s. Interestingly enough, the word rat rod was actually created by an editor from Hot Rod magazine who created/used the term in an attempt to described a car created by Robert Williams who had a car that was souped up, but deliberately was left unpolished or had that rusted, beat up look. Worn down paint, tired rims, additions made up of beat up parts, etc, etc. Anyways, I thought it would be fun to create a character that sort of had the same run down image of one of those rat rod cars. I do hope you enjoy this tut, I will be back with more so stay tuned in.
