How to Draw a Sloth

The first thing you're gonna want to do is draw the framework for your rainforest animal. Start by drawing a very uneven line for the tree branch. Then you will draw the shapes and lines for the sloth's arms, hands, head, and body.

Since these creatures are somewhat hairy looking, you will need to sketch out the shape of the actual head to look like it has long hair. Once that is done you can draw the patch markings that they have surrounding their eyes, and then draw the nose.

Next, sketch out the long ape like arm and clawed toes and or hands as you see here. This animal is clinching to the branch with all it's mite. Once that is done you can draw the thickness of the branch and move to the next step.

Add two circular eyes, and then add a mouth. Sketch the shape of it's shoulder, and then draw out the hind legs and claws. You will also draw more of the branches thickness.

You have now reached your last drawing step and as you can see all you have to do is sketch out the rest of the hairy body. Lastly, draw the rest of the branch and then start erasing all the guidelines and shapes that you drew in step one.

That's it, your drawing on a simple cartoon looking sloth is done. All you need to do now is color it in and wrap up this lesson. Join me once again for more fun!

Description: How many of you are familiar with a certain animal named a sloth? Well, if you seen the movie “Ice Age”, then you remember Sid who happened to be a giant sloth which was also a prehistoric animal like his two buddies Manny, who happened to be a Wooly Mammoth, and Diego, the untrustworthy saber tooth tiger. This first tutorial of the day is going to show you “how to draw a sloth, step by step”. Sloths are probably one of the more weirdest looking animals in existence, at least to me they are. There are two different species of sloth, the two-toed and three toed. Both of these species however can be found in the same places, Central and South American rainforests. Like the turtle, sloths are incredibly slow creatures that move like one mile an hour it seems. Unlike their cousins the giant sloth, these mammals are only the size of a small dog like a maltise or a Boston terrier. To describe this odd looking animal is very simple. They have heads that are just plain out flat, and they have long rope like arms that enable them to live in their tree or trees. Sloths also hang upside down quite a bit and they even sometimes give birth while hanging in this position. The hair on a sloth should look like a greyish brown or even sometimes a greyish green color. When they have a green tone to their hair, this means that algae has grown on them which aids as a camouflaging disguise. Did you know that sloths will sometimes live in the same tree for years? It true, these rainforest animals have been known to keep living in the same tree, sitting or hanging in the same spot for as much five years. Now being a tree dwelling creature, naturally their diet is mainly vegetative. They feed on fruit, leaves, bugs, and sticks. They are also a nocturnal species, which means they sleep in the day, and travel around at night. When they sleep they will curl up with it's head between the arms, and the feet close together. Sloths sleep in this odd position to look like they are a part of the tree which also hides their true identity and keeps jaguars ways. A recognizable characteristic about this animal is it's long sharp toes which also happens to be their nails. I think you will have fun learning “how to draw a sloth, step by step”.
