How to Draw a Lantern, Chinese Lantern

Step 1.


Begin by making a dough like shape for the form of your lantern.

Step 2.


The next thing you will need to do is draw a circle in the center of the lantern, then write the inscription which reads 'luck'. When that is done you will decorate the lantern with some curved vertical stripes.

Step 3.


Make a simple lip at the top of the lantern like so, then draw the string which enables folks to hang their lanterns.

Step 4.


Next, draw a bottom pedestal like piece like so, then proceed to step five.

Step 5.


Lastly, draw in the tassel like so, then add some detailing to the stringy material at the bottom of the tassel string. Erase the lines and shapes that you made in the steps.

Step 6.


Here is the lantern when you are all done. Now you can choose your shades to color in your drawing.

Description: Well folks there is some fun, easy, and cool tutorials on the way and I will start with "how to draw a lantern", strep by step. The lantern style I decided to make is from the Asian culture. The Chinese style lantern that is in this tutorial has the work 'luck' on it written in Chinese. Lanterns are usually used in China to celebrate the Chinese New Year. I had a lot of fun creating a simple, but traditional style lantern that folks can recognize at first glance. If you are into Asian culture you will definitely love drawing a lantern in this style. These lights can be used in so many drawing projects because they are so versatile. Folks also use light bulb style lanterns in their homes on their patios as well as throughout their yards. I myself do not own any of these, or other style lanterns, but I hope to own some in the future. I will return in a while with more drawing fun, but for now enjoy this lesson as you wait for the others. Peace out people!
