Mongooses sort of resemble a ferret because they both have long sleek bodies, short legs, and tapered or narrow snouts. The color of a mongoose is typically brown, grey, or like a yellowish brown. These animals are most famous for attacking poisonous snakes like cobras and rattle snakes, and eat them whole. They also feed on other animals like rats and mice, birds, frogs, worms, insects, and even reptiles. They are as you may have figured out by now carnivores, although there are some species of mongooses that actually eat fruits and seeds as a diet. Did you know? Mongooses where used back in the 1800s as a solution to control a rodent problem in Hawaii and in the West Indies on various sugar cane plantations. It’s a funny situation because even though these animals where brought to fight off a rodent problem they are being blamed for the disintegration of other native species like birds.
